From Marseille, come the stories of Fatima Rhazi and North African immigrant women cultivating new lives for themselves and their families in contemporary France.
Riots throughout France in 2005 and the presidential election in 2007 are backdrops to the stories of Fatima Rhazi, Morocco’s first female sports photographer, and the women she works to empower.

"La Voie du Nord est un documentaire qui raconte l'histoire d'une communauté de femmes d'origines maghrébines ayant émigrées à Marseille, la plus grande ville du sud de la France.
La Voie du Nord est un documentaire de style « vérité ». Il suit la vie de Fatima Rhazi, première femme marocaine à voir exercé le métier de photographe de sport dans son pays qui émigra à Marseille dans les années 1980.
A son arrivée sur Marseille, Fatima créa une association culturelle "Femmes D'Ici et D'Ailleurs" qui vient en aide aux femmes immigrées d'origines magrébines, qu'elles soient artistes, futures jeunes mariées ou simplement nouvellement arrivées sur la ville. Par le biais de Fatima et de son association, la caméra suit les parcours d'Itto, une jeune immigrée qui cherche à s'adapter à sa nouvelle vie tout en élevant sa jeune fille et d'Hadjera une « sans-papier » (immigrante illégale) algérienne à la recherche d'un travail et d'une régularisation."

Directed by Shara K. Lange.
Director Shara Lange returned to Marseille in June 2005 (where she studied French in 2003 and fell in love with the city) to make a documentary about North African immigrants. She met Fatima while documenting the city and built a documentary about her, the women she works with, and her non-profit organization, Femmes D'Ici et D'Ailleurs.
The film was shot in Marseille and Morocco between May 2005 and January 2007. Post-production took place in Austin, Texas and the film was finished in August 2007.

Association de Femmes crée en 1994 à Marseille. Nos activités se situent dans une logique d'échanges culturels et inter-culturels, d'intégration et d'insertion sociale et professionnelle des femmes et des familles qui viennent en marge de la société française en particulier, et cela , grâce à l'aide d'autres femmes parfaitement intégrées. Les femmes détentrices d'un savoir-faire peuvent jouer un rôle, être un fil qui relie et favorise des échanges qui seront fondés sur la conviction que la culture est inséparable des rapports sociaux. Aujourd'hui notre association a évolué dans un souci de parité les ateliers sont ouverts aux hommes. L'association "Femmes d'ici et d'ailleurs" se situe au 4 Rue Mazagran 13001 Marseille. En ce lieu nous proposons des ateliers culinaires, d'alphabétisation, de soutien scolaire, de broderie, de couture, d'échanges inter-culturels et inter-generationels.
